Providence fountain damaged in hit-and-run crash

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – An iconic Providence fountain was damaged after being struck by a car early Monday morning.

Providence Councilwoman Rachel Miller said in a statement Monday that the fountain at DePasquale Square in the Federal Hill neighborhood was struck by a hit-and-run driver overnight.

Councilwoman Miller said she is working with City and State officials to plan repairs and restoration to the fountain as soon as possible.

According to the Mayor’s office, the director of DPW and City engineer visited the fountain Monday morning to make a preliminary assessment.

Police are still looking to apprehend the suspect involved in the hit-and-run crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact Providence Police at 401-272-3121.
