Providence home damaged in 3-alarm fire

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – A Sumter Street home was damaged in a three-alarm fire Wednesday morning.

Over fifty firefighters responded to the Sumter Street home shortly before 11:00 a.m. Wednesday for reports of a fire in a three-story home.

A Providence Fire Department Battalion Chief told ABC6 the fire started on the first floor before spreading up the walls to the third floor.

Firefighters worked hard to save the life of a dog rescued from the third floor, but were unable to revive it.

Two firefighters were injured on the scene. One needed stitches and another was treated for exhaustion.

No other injuries were reported.
