Providence Lounge closed after shot fired

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – A Providence lounge was ordered to temporarily close after a shot was fired there early Saturday morning.

Commander Thomas Verdi confirmed around 1:30 a.m., officers responded to the a Hartford Avenue restaurant for a report of a shot fired.

Officers found a spent shell casing on the side walk in front of the Crystal Restaurant and Lounge. A security guard told police that an “unknown subject” was involved in a verbal altercation and fired a gunshot into the air before fleeing the scene.

According to a police report, investigators obtained surveillance video from the restaurant that a “shows a male subject appear to load a small firearm before firing into the air and fleeing on foot inbound on Hartford Avenue.”

The Providence Board of Licenses held an emergency hearing Saturday to determine what’s next for the establishment.

They ordered the restaurant to close for the next 72 hours.

This investigation is ongoing.
