Providence man charged with possession, distribution of child pornography

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Attorney General Peter Neronha announced a Providence man was charged with possession and distribution of child pornography after his arrest back in March.

Officials said 20-year-old Erick Galvez was charged with one count each of distribution and possession of child pornography and one count of possession of child erotica on June 27.

Court documents allege members of the Rhode Island State Police and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a notice from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a Twitter account contained multiple uploaded files containing child pornography and other related media.

After receiving the basic user identification from Twitter, investigators said they submitted legal inquiries to T-Mobile and Google to obtain more information to identify Galvez.

It is further alleged that after a search warrant was executed on Galvez’s residence on March 29, he admitted to authorities to possessing and distributing the images on Twitter. He was taken into police custody shortly after.

Galvez is scheduled for a pre-arraignment conference in November in Providence County Superior Court.
