PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE): After an internal investigation, the city decided not to hire a probationary police officer charged with domestic assault, according to the Providence Police Dept.

Craig Amado, 28, was arrested on Nov. 14.,  accused of slapping his girlfriend in the head three times and forcing her to the ground. The two have a 6-month-old baby together.

Amado has been with the Providence Police Dept. since June. At first, a spokesperson for the department said he had been suspended with pay. After an internal investigation, the city determined not to hire Amado as a Police Officer.

According to a police report, the girlfriend said the fight was caused after she used Amado’s car without his permission. After, he sent her threatening texts.

Amado pleaded not guilty and was released on his own recognizance. His next court date is December 10th.
