PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – A Providence Police officer has been cleared of wrongdoing after an internal investigation into a rash of stolen tires and rims.

Providence Police said Wednesday that Officer James Lewis was not involved in any criminal activity and did not provide any information to criminals.

An internal investigation began after Providence Police received information that Lewis may have been running license plates in non-police matters, possibly in connection with the theft of approximately $80,000 worth of rims and tires in East Providence.

Officer Lewis was interviewed by OPR (Office of Professional Responsibility) and was put on administrative leave pending further investigation.

The investigation concluded that Lewis was not involved in any criminal act.
