Providence police still search for man accused of stealing car with 2 children inside

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police said a car was stolen with two young children inside Wednesday.

Police said they received a call from a woman just after 3:30 p.m. that her car was taken from Rhodes Street with her two children, ages 1 and 4, inside the car.

As police were responding to the location of the vehicle theft, they received a call that a nurse found two young children unattended by Rhode Island Hospital.

Officers were able to confirm the two children were the ones inside the stolen car and they were reunited with their mother unharmed.

Police said they are still looking for the stolen vehicle — described as a light blue Honda CRV with the licenses plate “1CS204.”

Detectives have obtained some surveillance footage and have determined the suspect is a man that was wearing a tan hat, white t-shirt and was carrying a backpack.

No further information was immediately released.
