Providence Police investigating homicide, city’s 12th

Providence Police are investigating a fatal stabbing which happened Thursday afternoon.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence Police are investigating a fatal stabbing which happened Thursday afternoon.

According to Major David Lapatin, police were called to the fire station on Atwells Avenue for a man with a knife wound.

He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital but died shortly after.

“The firemen worked on him, rushed him to the hospital,” said Major David Lapatin of Providence Police. “He was pronounced dead at Rhode Island  Hospital shortly after that.”

Police say the person who brought him to the fire station did stay on scene. It’s unclear if he is involved or not in what happened.

Lapatin says police believe the stabbing happened on Swiss Street which is right around the corner from the firehouse.

Detective were investigating there in front of the Federal Hill House Association for a few hours Thursday afternoon.

Lapatin said they hadn’t made any arrests as of now but that they might have some suspects in mind.
