Update: Police investigating homicide at Roger Williams Park, confirm man was shot

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence Police detectives are continuing a homicide investigation after a man was discovered injured on the Providence-Cranston line at Roger Williams Park on Monday afternoon.

The man later succumbed to his injuries.

On Tuesday, police confirmed the results of an autopsy indicated the man had been shot.

Detectives arrived at the intersection of Wheeler Avenue and FC Greene Memorial Boulevard around 1:00 Monday afternoon.

According to Major David Lapatin, when first responders arrived on-scene they found a man who was injured and laying on the ground.

Lapatin said the victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead.


Lapatin said his crew continued searching the area for clues and would have more information soon.

“When something like this happens the entire area gets searched. We’re looking for any type of clues you can find– video, something on the ground, witnesses, any kind of information that will help us,” said Lapatin.

The victim has not yet been identified.
