Providence police investigate possible homicide after woman dropped off at RIH

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- Providence police were called to Rhode Island Hospital Wednesday morning after hospital workers alerted them of a possible homicide.

Investigators told ABC6 a woman they believe to be around 32-years-old was dropped off by three of her friends just before 7 a.m.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital, and police were subsequently called.

At first, police said the death was being investigated as a possible homicide, but now they’re treating it as more of a suspicious, unexplained death.

Detective Captain Timothy O’Hara said the friends came from a location in Providence.

“It’s unknown if she was in an apartment prior to that, or she had spent the night in her car, we’re determining all those factors right now,” said Detective Captain O’Hara

Police say the woman’s friends are cooperating in the investigation.

“We’re not closing the door on a suspicious death…but it’s being categorized as an unexplained death at this time,” said the Detective Captain.

Detectives say they’re looking into many different factors that could’ve contributed to the mysterious death.

The woman has not yet been identified and an autopsy is being done by the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine her cause of death.

This is a developing story, more information will be added as it becomes available.
