Providence police mourn loss of retired K-9 Gero

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Police Department is mourning the loss of K-9 Gero.

The department announced on social media that Gero passed away at 9 and-a-half years old.

The department offered its condolences to his partner, Officer Louis Salinaro, who has also retired from serving the community.

The agency said Gero was a “true hero” that served as a certified patrol and narcotics K-9 for almost seven years.

He assisted with several drug arrests and investigations throughout his career.
