PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police are looking for a group who caused a scare on the East Side Monday night.

Police were called to the Avon Cinema on Thayer Street at about 9:30 p.m. for a reported bomb threat.

Cmdr. Kevin Lanni told ABC 6 News that witnesses said a group of people ran in and out of the theatre claiming to “have a firearm or an explosive device.”

A police report obtained by ABC 6 says the group then ran up Thayer Street towards the CVS pharmacy, then up Cushing Street to Brook Street. No arrests were made.

According to the report, 102 people were at the theatre at the time of the disturbance. The group reportedly caused problems at a different spot on Thayer Street before entering the theatre.

Lanni said the group was caught on video surveillance footage at a nearby business. That footage or any further information was not immediately released.

The threat is under investigation.
