Man accused of killing girlfriend, placing body in refrigerator held without bail

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police said Wednesday that a woman’s body was found inside a refrigerator and wrapped in saran wrap.

Police responded to Parkis Avenue early Tuesday morning for report of a dead body inside a home.

During a press conference Wednesday morning, Maj. David Lapatin identified the victim as Sherbert Maddox, 40. They said her boyfriend, 53-year-old Nathan Cooper, was arrested in connection to the murder.

Maddox was discovered wrapped in saran wrap, blankets and towels, added Lapatin. Police believe her body was intact.

While searching the home, investigators found guns, including a rifle. Lapatin believes a handgun was used to shoot the 40-year-old.

Police said Maddox’s body was in the home Sunday and Monday before she was found Tuesday.

The suspect appeared before a judge on Wednesday and did not enter a plea. When Cooper entered the court room, one of the victim’s family members started yelling expletives at Cooper.

Cooper is being held without bail.
