Providence Principal Honored as Principal of the Year

PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) – In a surprise ceremony on Friday, the RI Association of School Principals named Courtney Monterecy, as the RIASP Principal of the year for 2020.
Monterecy, the principal of Mary E. Fogarty Elementary School, will represent the state in the National Distinguished Principal of the Year program (NAESP).
Monterecy, is a 20-year veteran of the Providence Schools and has led Fogarty since 2014.
During this time, she created a teacher mentoring program for staff and worked with the organization Inspiring Minds to match community tutors with students.
She launched the innovate Coffee by the Curb in the morning to increase family engagement and reduce student absenteeism.
She also partnered with Family Service of RI for a Walking School Bus program.
Monterecy is widely credited by her peers with improving the culture and academic achievement of the school.
