Providence schools to host ribbon-cutting of Classical High School turf field

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Public School District announced they will be holding a ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremony for Classical High School’s new turf field.

Officials said the ribbon cutting will be held just before the girls lacrosse game against North Smithfield at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 22.

The school announced the field will serve as the home ground for all six high school sports teams including football, soccer, boys and girls lacrosse and softball.

District members said the new and improved field will undoubtedly enhance the athletic experience for students and the Providence community.

“Classical High School’s new and improved field is yet another example of what is possible when we all come together to make the right investments in our kids,” said Governor Dan McKee in a release.

“My administration has been focused on creating more modern, welcoming school facilities statewide because we know they enhance students’ educational experiences and can have a positive impact on student engagement and achievement. I congratulate Classical High School on the completion of this project and look forward to seeing students compete and have fun on their new turf,” he concluded.

The ribbon cutting ceremony is set to begin at 5:15 on May 22.
