PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Police are investigating a stabbing in the Elmhurst neighborhood of Providence early Sunday morning.

Providence Police say that Luilly Para, 24, was stabbed around 2:00 a.m. on Pembroke Avenue.

Officers patrolling the area found Para leaving through a side yard on Oakland Avenue, bleeding heavily from his abdomen, according to Commander Thomas Verdi.

They tried to speak with him to no avail, then followed a trail of blood back to a front porch on Pembroke Avenue, where they witnessed a fight breaking up just moments earlier.

Para was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Many people living on those streets are students at Providence College.

“It is scary, for me to hear that somebody got stabbed in this neighborhood. It breaks my heart to hear that,” said neighbor, Markella Degnan.

School officials told ABC6 News that Para is not a student at the college.

The incident is currently under investigation and no arrests have been made at this time.
