Immigration reform supporters
are gathering nationwide to bring reform to the forefront.
Immigrants and their allies
are scheduled to hold vigils and marches in over 150 cities across the country, including Providence, on
Saturday in efforts to overhaul the immigration system.
Although Congress is deep in debates over budget and the health care law, activists are hoping to bring the
matter to Congress' attention before the end of the year, send this message to average
Americans, and empower immigrants.
There is also a rally and
free concert expected for Tuesday in D.C. that could draw thousands.
Locally, religious, labor and
community groups will gather in front of the Providence Place Mall Saturday
afternoon to call on Congress to act upon the issue of immigration reform. ABC6
News Reporter Dana Griffin will have more on that tonight at 7:00.
