Providence’s 11th homicide victim identified

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Providence police have identified a 21-year-old
woman fatally shot as she drove on a South Providence street on
Saturday.
A police spokeswoman said Monday that Esscence Christal died after
shots were fired at a Nissan Maxima she was driving, with two passengers.
No arrests have been made.
A witness told investigators he saw
another vehicle follow the Maxima, then pull up to its passenger side. He said several shots were
fired at the Maxima from the other car.
      Police say the Maxima
traveled several blocks before it veered off the road, hit a tree,
and rolled onto its roof.
Christal and her passengers were taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

Christal is the city's 11th homicide. There have been 12 homicides
citywide in 2011.
