Quiet day; rain moves in tonight
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Today is a quiet day for us around the area with clouds increasing throughout the day.
Tonight we have the showers start to move in and increase through the overnight making our Friday morning commute a slow go.
Expect rain and thunderstorms throughout much of the day on Friday.
By Saturday morning most of the showers will move out and we will catch a break before another round of scattered showers moves through.
Sunday will be more spotty showers, but not a wash out.
Tracking the tropics… That National Hurricane Center is watch several areas of concern.
As we head into the last few days of August, we are starting to see the tropics ramp up. The area of concern at the moment is Tropical Storm Franklin, where the National Hurricane Center is projecting it will strengthen into a hurricane over the next few days.
The storm is pulling away from Turks and Caicos and is forecast to move father away from the Dominican Republic and over the southwestern Atlantic into the weekend.
Ocean surface temperatures are warm enough for the storm to increase in intensity as it moves through the Atlantic.
For us in New England, we may catch some showers on Tuesday and some gusty winds, but as of now it looks as if it will stay out at sea.
