Rain causes messy commute

Heavy rain pummeled Southern New England Thursday with some of the heaviest weather coming down during the evening commute.

Rhode Island State Police tell ABC 6 News that they responded to 15 accidents.

In Narragansett, massive waves crashed over the pier as the water hit high tide around 8:30 pm.

"They’re super cool they are super awesome just to see the power of Mother Nature," said Jonathan Janikies.

Janikies enjoyed the view Thursday night from the Coast Guard House. He says it’s quite the reprieve after battling heavy rain on the roads earlier in the day.

"It was pretty tough traffic was slow, it was pretty tough," said Janikies.

There were many reports across the region of minor flooding and massive puddles. Visibility on the roads was tough at time and traffic was very slow going.

"It was really bad 2,3 inches of rain blinding you couldn’t see, puddles everywhere you had to avoid it was very difficult driving," said Maryanne Wodecki.

"I’m used to it I’ll drive in the snow or any kind of bad weather it doesn’t matter," said Bob Wodecki.

The rainy weather forced the PawSox to cancel their home opener. The game has been rescheduled for Friday.
