Saturday soaker, Sunday sunshine
Forecast and Discussion by Meteorologist Nick Morganelli
Providence, RI –
A storm system is moveinhg into the Mid-West. It has produced a lot of severe weather through the plains and mid-west with tornadoes as well. A tornado watch stretches from the Canadian border east of the Mississippi valley to the Gulf coast. For us, a warm front will lift to the Canadian border this morning. This will boost our temperatures as a southerly wind brings a steady rain to southern New England for a wet day. Two cold fronts will swing through our area on Saturday. The first mid-afternoon will bring in drier air and perhaps some sunshine late Saturday. A second, stronger cold front may bring a heavy downpour with a clap of thunder Saturday evening. This will usher in cooler air for the 2nd half of the weekend. High pressure builds in Sunday through Tuesday bringing dry weather. More spring-like air will ensue after Tuesday as this high moves east and a return flow of wind out of the south pumps in warm air.
OVERNIGHT: Cloudy. Temperatures in the 40s.
SATURDAY: Morning and midday rain, then a sunny break late afternoon. High nearing 60. Gusty wind SW 25-40 mph. Higher gusts at the shoreline.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Another round of rain mid evening. Lows in the upper 40s.
SUNDAY: Sunshine returns Sunday with a chilly wind. Mid 40s. Wind NW 15-20 mph.
