Rainy start for Friday; weekend looking better
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) –A rainy, slow-go commute for us this morning.
Expect rain and thunderstorms throughout much of the day today, but by late afternoon it starts to taper off especially as we head into the overnight hours.
By Saturday morning most of the showers will move out and we will be left with some scattered, spotty showers.
Tracking the tropics… That National Hurricane Center is watching several areas of concern.
As we head into the last few days of August, we are starting to see the tropics ramp up. The area of concern at the moment is Tropical Storm Franklin, where the National Hurricane Center is projecting it will strengthen into a hurricane over the weekend.
Franklin is located about 200 miles east northeast of Grand Turk island moving ENE at only 6mph with sustained winds speeds of 60mph.
Franklin is expected to turn northward this weekend. It is not projected to reach the US, but the impact we could feel here mid-week is dangerous rip current and high surf. This is a concern as we are headed into a holiday weekend and many New Englanders head to the beaches.
