Rally for Ukraine held in Woonsocket Sunday


WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE)- A rally was held outside of St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church in Woonsocket Sunday afternoon.

Rhode Islanders gathered in support, calling for change. Polish Rhode Islanders standing side by side in solidarity with Ukraine.

Leisa Fasiak moved to the United States from Ukraine 15 years ago. The Massachusetts resident told ABC6 News her parents, sister, brother-in-law, and their three children are all still in Western Ukraine.

“It’s relatively safe area right now, but every night they hear sirens, so they have to go to the basement,” she explained.

“Usually when a family goes through a tragedy, you’re thinking about one person, right?” she said to ABC6. “Here, you’re thinking about a whole nation.”

Sponsors of a resolution to condemn aggression against Ukraine, Senators Melissa A. Murray and Leonidas Raptakis were in attendance and presented the parish with an official copy of the resolution.
