Rams E.C. Mathews A-10 Rookie of the Week for a Fourth Time

KINGSTON, R.I. — After a career-high 24 point performance last time out against Massachusetts, E.C. Matthews earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors for the second consecutive week and fourth time overall in 2013-14.

The native of Romulus, Mich. poured in a game and career-high 24 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor (2-6 3FG) and 8-of-9 shooting from the charity stripe against UMass on Feb. 9.  He added three rebounds and two assists in 39 minutes of play.  Earlier in the week at VCU, Matthews added five points, three rebounds, three assists, a blocked shot and a steal.

Matthews is tied for the most weekly rookie conference honors from the A-10, along with Jalen Jenkins of George Mason and Jon Severe of Fordham.  Among all freshmen, he ranks second in the league in scoring and fourth in rebounding.

He is one of just seven freshmen nationally to average at least 12.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 steal per game.
