Rams Star E.C. Mathews Names A-10 Rookie of the Week for 5th Time

KINGSTON, R.I. — Freshman guard E.C. Matthews
was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the third consecutive
week, earning weekly honors for a conference-best fifth time this season.

Matthews averaged 27.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in Rhode
Island's two games this week.  The Detroit native connected on 65.5% of
his shots from the floor (19-29), including 8-of-14 from beyond the
3-point arc.  

Last time out against Duquesne, Matthews poured in 32 points – the
second-highest scoring game by a freshman in the A-10 this year. 
Matthews connected on 11-of-15 shots, including 6-of-8 from beyond the
arc, while also grabbing four boards and dishing out three assists.

At Dayton on Feb. 12, Matthews scored 16 of his game-high 22 points in
the second half, shooting 8-for-14 (2-2 3FG) from the floor.  He also
dished out four assists and grabbed three rebounds.

Since January, Matthews has posted seven games with 20 or more points –
the second-most by any freshman nationally since the calendar changed.

Matthews and the Rams return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at home against Saint Joseph's in the eighth annual Pink Out game.
