RED SOX TRADE THIRD BASEMAN DANNY VALENCIA TO THE ORIOLES FOR CASH CONSIDERATIONS

 

BOSTON, MA—The
Boston Red Sox today traded third baseman Danny Valencia to the
Baltimore Orioles in exchange for cash considerations.  The announcement
was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington.

 

Valencia,
28, was designated for assignment on November 20.  Acquired by Boston
from the Minnesota Twins on August 5, he played in 10 games over two
stints with the Red Sox in 2012, going 4-for-28 (.143) with a home run
and four RBI.  He also hit .306 (15-for-49) with three doubles, a home
run and eight RBI in 13 regular season games for Pawtucket.  During the
PawSox' Governor's Cup Championship run, the right-handed hitter knocked
two homers and drove in six runs. 

 

Selected by Minnesota in the 19th
round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, Valencia owns a .257 average
(261-for-1,017) with 52 doubles, four triples, 25 home runs, 133 RBI,
107 runs and 63 walks in 283 career Major League games with the Twins
(2010-12) and Red Sox (2012).
