Red Sox Announce Spring Training Plans, Some Fans To Be Allowed At Jet Blue Park
Red Sox Spring Training is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, February 17, with the first exhibition game taking place on Saturday, February 27, at JetBlue Park at Fenway South in Lee County, FL, where the team plays a total of 17 Grapefruit League home games. Red Sox Spring Training is presented by CVS Health.
The Red Sox will implement appropriate physical distancing and safety protocols that will allow fans to return in a limited capacity for 2021 Spring Training exhibition games by operating JetBlue Park at approximately 24 percent of its normal capacity (around 2,400 fans each game; regular seating capacity is 9,909). All tickets will be sold in physically distanced ‘pods’ comprised primarily of 2-4 seats that will allow for at least 6 feet between groups. Season Ticket Holders will be offered the first opportunity to attend exhibition games and additional tickets may go on sale to the general public depending on availability.
The Red Sox’ equipment truck is scheduled to depart from Fenway Park on Monday, February 8, and is anticipated to arrive at JetBlue Park on Thursday, February 11. Truck Day is presented by JetBlue. To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, fans are discouraged from gathering at Fenway Park for the departure of the equipment truck, or at JetBlue Park for its arrival.
The Red Sox will continue to follow the best practices and precautions recommended by public health experts and currently plan to hold their first workouts on February 17 for pitchers and catchers, and February 22 for the full squad. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, workouts will be closed to the public and there will be no tours or open house held this Spring Training.
The 2021 season marks the Red Sox’ tenth at JetBlue Park at Fenway South. All day games are scheduled to begin at 1:05 p.m. Two night games are scheduled at 6:05 p.m. on March 12 and 26.
