Red Sox Recall Michael Bowden

RED SOX RECALL RIGHT-HANDED PITCHER MICHAEL BOWDEN

 

BOSTON, MA — The Boston Red Sox today recalled right-handed pitcher Michael Bowden from Triple-A Pawtucket.  Bowden will be active for tonight's game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park, wearing No. 64.

 

The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Theo Epstein.

 

Bowden, who turns 24 on Thursday, has made six relief appearances over two stints with the Red Sox this season, posting a 6.00 ERA (4 ER/6.0 IP) with six strikeouts.  In 31 games (16 starts) with the PawSox in 2010, he went 6-4 with one save, a 3.66 ERA (43 ER/105.2 IP), 77 strikeouts and 37 walks, while holding opponents to a .222 clip (84-for-379).  Bowden made each of his last 15 appearances with Pawtucket out of the bullpen, going 2-1 with one save, a 3.20 ERA (7 ER/19.2 IP) and 18 strikeouts.  

 

With today's addition, the Red Sox active Major League roster is now at 33 players.
