Red Sox Recall Reliever Robert Manuel From PawSox

RED SOX RECALL RIGHT-HANDED PITCHER ROBERT MANUEL FROM TRIPLE-A PAWTUCKET

 

BOSTON, MA — The Boston Red Sox today recalled right-handed pitcher Robert Manuel from Triple-A Pawtucket.  He will be active for tonight's game in Baltimore and will wear No. 59.

 

The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Theo Epstein.

 

Manuel, 27, begins his third stint with the Red Sox this season after compiling a 3.86 ERA (3 ER/7.0 IP) over five relief appearances with the club from July 3-15.  The right-hander is 8-2 with 13 saves, a 1.68 ERA (12 ER/64.1 IP) and 48 strikeouts over 45 relief outings with Pawtucket this season. Named to the 2010 International League All-Star team, Manuel ranks among the circuit's relievers in fewest base runners per nine innings (2nd, 8.39), fewest walks per nine innings (4th, 1.82) and opponent batting average (4th, .200).  He owns a 2.38 ERA (3 ER/11.1 IP) over eight career Major League appearances between the Reds (2009) and Red Sox (2010).
