Red Sox Select Nine Players On Day Two of MLB Draft Monday

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today continued their participation in Major League Baseball’s 2021 Draft with nine additional selections in rounds 2-10.

Over the first two days of the draft, Boston has selected four right-handed pitchers, one catcher, one second baseman, one third baseman, one shortstop, one center fielder, and one utility player.

With their first pick today, 40th overall, the Red Sox selected outfielder Jud Fabian out of the University of Florida. The right-handed hitter was ranked by MLB.com as the No. 23 prospect available in this year’s draft, as well as the No. 27 prospect by Baseball America. He was selected to the All-Southeastern Conference First Team and All-Southeastern Conference Defensive Team in 2021, as well as both Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA’s All-America Third Team. In 59 games for the Gators this season, all starts in center field, Fabian hit .249 (56-for-225) with 51 runs scored, 10 doubles, 20 home runs, 46 RBI, and 40 walks, ranking tied for ninth among NCAA Division 1 hitters in home runs. He posted a .366 on-base percentage over three collegiate seasons, scoring 102 runs in 132 games. Fabian played for Bourne of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2019, where he hit .290 (36-for-124) with an .850 OPS, eight doubles, six home runs, and 16 RBI for the Braves. The native of Ocala, FL, attended Trinity Catholic High School (FL), playing in both the 2018 Under Armour All-American Game at Wrigley Field and Perfect Game All-American Game at Petco Park.
