Regulatory board blocks Burrillville power plant proposal

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) – A controversial proposal to build a power plant in Burrillville has been blocked by a regulation board.
The RI Energy Facility Siting Board voted unanimously Thursday to block the license needed by Illinois-based Invenergy to build the power plant in Burrillville.
A board representative told ABC6 that Invenergy failed to prove the plant was a necessary addition.
The vote comes after a series of public hearings held in Burrillville Wednesday for residents to weigh in on the controversial proposal.
The decision may be appealed in Rhode Island Supreme Court.
“We will review the written decision and evaluate our options,” said Invenergy spokeswoman Beth Conley.
