Regunberg ‘hopeful’ in speech after CD1 primary loss

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Democratic candidate Aaron Regunberg thanked his constituents and team shortly after falling to Gabe Amo in the primary elections for Rhode Island’s first congressional district seat.

At the Colonial Tavern in Providence, friends, family, supporters and more chanted Regunberg’s name as he took the podium.

“As tough as tonight might feel, I feel hopeful,” said Regunberg.

He added that he congratulated Amo on his victory and have him his full support in Washington D.C. as he takes over former congressman David Cicilline’s seat.

He told us after his speech, “I never knew what was going to happen. We were always just doing everything we could to the finish, whether we were up or down. We just figured we’d do all the work that we could, and I think we did that.”

Regunberg added that he’ll be joining a climate change advocacy association to continue his fight for climate change.
