Regunberg, Sanders draw large crowd for CD1 rally
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Sen. Bernie Sanders visited the Ocean State on Sunday to show his support for Aaron Regunberg’s 1st Congressional District campaign.
“Bernie Sanders transformed American politics, and I know because I was in politics before Bernie’s run and after, and I was a state rep here before he swept Rhode Island in that primary and afterwards,” Regunberg said.
The crowd was eager to hear Sanders speak about his support of Regunberg.

“We need people who have the guts to take on powerful special interest and fight for the working class of this county and Aaron will be one of those people,” Sanders said.
Regenburg said, if elected, his attention would be on the future, saying he plans to focus on climate change, woman’s rights, the gun industry, and pharmaceutical companies.

“It’s not an accident that more kids die from guns in this country than anywhere else on the planet,” he said. “It’s not an accident that our climate is spiraling out of control while corporate profits are literally hitting record highs.”
The primary election is set for Sept. 5.
A recent internal poll released by Gabe Amo’s campaign put Regunberg in the lead of the race with 28%.
