A Rehoboth mother was sentenced to life in prison Thursday for killing her 2-year-old son in 2010.

44-year-old Kimberly Peno was convicted of first degree murder after beating her son Timothy in the basement of their home on March 17th, 2010. Peno had been drinking heavily and smoking crack cocaine prior to the beating.

Timothy was rushed to Hasbro Children’s Hospital where he died the next day as a result of the severe injuries to his face, head, and body.

The jury deliberated for about 10 hours over the course of two days following the 6-day trial in Fall River Superior Court.
