NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) – The tradition continues at Bowen’s Wharf! The 50th annual Christmas tree lighting will take place on Saturday, December 5th.

The Bowen’s Wharf Merchants Association is hosting the reimagined event.  Because of restrictions for large in-person gathering amid the pandemic, the ceremony and countdown will be live-streamed on social media.  A city official will light the tree at 6 p.m. to mark the official beginning of the holiday season.

The 30 foot Norway spruce will come from the Pachet Brook Tree Farm in Tiverton. It will stay lit until early February, so there’s plenty of time to head to the wharf and see it.

Watch the lighting on the Bowen’s Wharf Facebook and Instagram pages.
