FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) — Bill O’Brien will be returning to New England’s coaching staff for the 2023 season, according to reports.

ESPN is reporting that O’Brien will return to the Patriots as their offensive coordinator.

O’Brien, the current offensive coordinator for Alabama, previously coached in New England from 2007 to 2011, serving as the offensive coordinator in 2011.

Following his first stint with the Patriots, O’Brien served as the head coach at Penn State and with the Houston Texans before heading to Alabama.

O’Brien will be taking over for Matt Patricia after New England saw a decline in offensive production this past season.

The Patriots scored nearly six points less a game this year compared to 2021 and scored 12 less offensive touchdowns.

An official announcement from the Patriots is expected by the end of Tuesday.
