Resident burning debris sparks brush fire in Burrillville

Burrillville brush fire (WLNE)

BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (WLNE) — Fire officials said a resident burning debris sparked a brush fire in Burrillville Friday.

Pascoag Fire Chief Michael Dexter said the resident tried to put out the fire by himself and suffered superficial burns in the process.

He was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Dexter said the fire covered approximately five acres and took crews from several departments about five hours to extinguish.

“With the high winds, today is a red flag warning day, so extreme fire danger, so there shouldn’t be any outside burning,” said Dexter.

The Red Flag Warning is in effect for all of Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut until 8 p.m.
