Residents jump from windows to escape fire in Providence
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Two people had to jump from their windows to escape a fire in Providence late Tuesday.
The apartments above Uncle Ben’s Liquor Store on Douglas Avenue are a total loss.
Fire officials told ABC 6 News crews on scene that four people lived in the apartments.
Two of them were forced to jump out of their windows to escape the flames. They were both taken to a nearby hospital, one with serious injuries and one with minor injuries.
The fire took hours to get under control.
Fire officials said the flames crept up the walls of the home, making it difficult to knock down.
The apartments are a total loss and the liquor store has water damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
