Restricted bridge access due to high-speed winds

JAMESTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) – The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) implemented restricted access on the Newport Pell and Jamestown Verrazzano bridges on Monday, after high-speed winds tore through southern New England.

“This implementation restricts panel body type trucks when empty, tractor trailers, van types when empty, house trailers, motor homes, high profile vehicles, motorcycles and mopeds.” said a RITBA spokesperson in a release.

The protocol for restricted access on the bridge s if winds are sustained at 50 knots (58 mph) when wind directions as N, NE, & S, SM across the Newport Pell Bridge.
