‘Rex block’ brings great holiday weekend weather
Another great stretch of weather is setting up for Southern New England, lasting right on through Memorial Day Weekend.
Something called a Rex block is to blame. High pressure situated over the Northeast will be suppressing a cut off coastal low over the Carolinas well to the south of us.
The name given to this setup is because it was discovered by meteorologist Daniel F. Rex.
Friday will be absolutely gorgeous, with full sun and highs around 70. Temperatures will creep slightly warmer all weekend, with Monday topping out near 80.
The one bit of uncertainty comes with the timing of a dry backdoor cold front that could bring in an east wind, keeping shore points much cooler.
Outside of that, seasonably warm and sunny weather continues through the middle of next week before a potentially BIG warm up towards the end of next week.
By next Thursday, highs away from the beaches could approach 90 degrees!
In other news, NOAA released its initial 2023 Atlantic hurricane season forecast earlier Thursday. It calls for a slightly above average season, sighting a possible El Nino influence plus warmer than average water temperatures.
Have a great rest of your Thursday!
