PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) -The Rhode Island Blood Center is giving out a free pint of beer for every pint of blood donated, throughout the month of August.

It’s a new initiative in Rhode Island, where six local breweries are teaming up with Rhode Island blood center’s six locations.

Those who donate in the month of August, and are 21 and older, will get a coupon for a free pint of beer.

Summer is typically a slow month for donations and officials hope a free pint of beer will entice those to donate and help ensure a steady blood supply for our state.

A typical blood donation is one pint which can help save up to three lives.

See below for the list of participating breweries:

  • Whalers Brewing Company in South Kingstown
  • Grey Sail Brewing in Westerly
  • Foolproof in Pawtucket
  • The Guild in Pawtucket
  • Proclamation Ale Company in Warwick
  • Newport Craft Brewing Co. in Newport

The Rhode Island Blood Center adds that “all presenting center donors in August will also be automatically entered into a drawing to win a pair of tickets to see the New England Patriots home opener at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, September 8. Donors 16 years and older will be eligible for the Patriot’s ticket drawing.”
