Rhode Island College Offers Car-Share Program
A new car-sharing program was made available this week at Rhode Island College. Zipcar is a leading car-share program that started in Massachusetts. As of today, two zipcars have front row parking outside of the Student Union Building at RIC.
Officials at RIC are hoping to reduce traffic congestion and vehicle emissions on campus. President of RIC, Nancy Carriuolo says, “we believe at Rhode Island College that it is very important to do whatever we can to keep the campus green, and this would be one way that we would do that.”
Student can visit the Zipcar website and pay an up front, one-time twenty five dollar fee, then the receive a card which will act as the key for the cars. Once you're a member you can reserve the car online or with a smart phone app. For RIC students the cost is about seven dollars and hour or sixty-six dollars a day, with gas and insurance covered.
Student on campus are excited for the new program, Tom Kane says, “it's very convenient and definitely something a lot of students at Rhode Island College I know are going to take advantage of.”
