Rhode Island House honors Big East player Tyler Kolek

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — “I am so excited to welcome Tyler Kolek to the State House,” said House Deputy Majority Whip Mia Ackerman, who honored the Cumberland native for his “tremendous success.”

“He is an impressive young man, on and off the court, and the pride of the entire town of Cumberland,” said Ackerman.

Kolek was named the 2023 Big East Player of the Year in March. He received the award at Madison Square Garden before the Big East Tournament.

Ackerman presented Kolek  with a citation and introduced a resolution in his honor.

Kolek grew up in Cumberland. He started his high school career at Cumberland High School before transferring to St. George’s School in Middletown. In 2019, he was named Rhode Island Gatorade Player of the Year.
