Rhode Island man pleads guilty to child pornography charges

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island man who was twice arrested on child pornography charges, the second time while he was waiting trial following his first arrest, has pleaded guilty, federal prosecutors said.

Jacob S. Munroe, 23, faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced in February, according to a statement Monday from the U.S. attorney’s office in Rhode Island.

Munroe, who lives in the Pascoag village of Burrillville, was first arrested in June 2019 when illicit images were found on his cellphone after Homeland Security agents found that child pornography posted to an Internet messaging and networking application was tied to Munroe’s IP address, authorities said.

He was released on unsecured bond.

In an unrelated investigation, while awaiting trial on charges related to first arrest, Munroe was arrested by Rhode Island State Police in November 2020 when it was determined that he downloaded images depicting child pornography.

He pleaded guilty Monday to distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography, prosecutors said.
