PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Rhode Island law enforcement officials say unused and unwanted prescription drugs will be collected at more than two dozen sites across the state.

Rhode Island is once again participating in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Saturday. The biannual event will be held until 2 p.m.

The goal is to rid homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.

At the last event in October, Rhode Island residents turned in more than two tons of prescription drugs.

Collection sites are listed online Rhode Island U.S. Attorney Aaron Weisman says studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, and safely disposing of expired or unwanted prescriptions could save lives.
