Rhode Island receives extra $10M in funding for Public School Energy Equity Program

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Gov. Dan McKee said Friday that Rhode Island received an extra $10 million in funding for the Public School Energy Equity Program.

McKee said the funding will be used to improve infrastructure that will lead to healthier learning environments for students.

According to the governor’s office, Sen. Jack Reed secured $5 million from the U.S. Department of Energy and the other $5 million came from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.

This money, McKee said, will be combined with the $10 million that was previously allocated through the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative funding.

McKee said the program aims to make efforts towards stronger energy efficiency and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

“Our kids deserve to learn in classrooms that give them the best opportunities to excel,” added Reed.
