PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Every year, soldiers from Rhode Island film holiday messages to send back to the states.

The Military Public Affairs Offices film these greetings to share with family and friends.

The soldiers are part of the 2nd Infantry Division/ROK-U.S. Combined Division.

Their mission statement is written on their website, saying “The 2nd Infantry Division deters aggression and maintains peace on the Korean Peninsula; and if deterrence fails, “Fight Tonight” in support of the U.S-Republic of Korea Alliance.”

Greeting videos are usually filmed on major holidays, including Veterans Day and Thanksgiving.

One message was from Sgt. Griffin O’Hara, saying, “I’m Sergeant Griffin O’Hara. I’m from Providence, Rhode Island. I’m part of 70th BSB and this is my holiday message. Happy Holidays Grandma, Dad, and my other Grandma. Love you.”

“I’m Specialist Zachary Leonard from alpha 2 4 Barrington, Rhode Island. I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everybody,” said Spc. Zachary Leonard.

“Hey all, I’m Staff Sergeant Michael Portofee. I am from the lovely state of Rhode Island. I am stationed here with 696th FSC in lovely South Korea. I would like to give a shoutout to all my friends, family, especially my lovely wife Jess, and my son Carter back at home. Love you guys,” said Staff Sgt. Michael Portofee.
