Rhode Island State Police investigate wrong way driver crash on Route 146

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Rhode Island State Troopers from the Lincoln Woods Barracks, as well as the Providence Fire Department responded to a crash on Route 146 South in Providence on Thursday.

Troopers arrived on scene, just north of Admiral Street and saw three vehicles with heavy damage. After some investigations, Police learned that it was a silver Nissan traveling north in the southbound lanes of Route 146. The Nissan sideswiped a vehicle before striking a second vehicle. One passenger was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries.

During more investigations, it was learned the Nissan Driver was under the influence of alcohol. twenty-year-old Dulcelena Tavares of Pawtucket, was arrested for Driving under the influence with a BAC greater than .15 , and Driving to Endanger resulting in Physical Injury. She also received several traffic violations.
