RHODE ISLAND AT THE A-10 TOURNAMENT

Rhode Island makes the trip to Wilmington, Delaware for the 2023 Atlantic 10 Tournament.
The Rams earned the double-bye for the second straight season, drawing the No. 2 seed in a tiebreaker after both Rhody and UMass finished 14-2.
Rhody faces George Washington after the Colonials defeated Duquesne 71-68 in game six.
Earlier this season, the Rams beat GW 64-47.
Head coach Tammi Reiss is looking for her first win at the A-10 Tournament.
Last season, No. 8 St. Joe’s stunned the Rams, dismissing them from the tournament after one game.
REISS NAMED A-10 COACH OF THE YEAR FOR THE SECOND TIME IN THREE YEARS

Rhode Island head coach Tammi Reiss was name the 2023 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year, the league announced Tuesday ahead of tipoff of the A-10 Tournament.
The Rams finished their regular season in historical fashion, clinching a share of the regular season title.
In her fourth year at the helm, she led the Rams to 23 wins, the most in program history. Rhody also won 14 A-10 games and 13 games at the Ryan Center- both program bests.
URI received votes in national polls for the second straight season, again, for the first time ever.
Reiss, who was named the 2020-21 A-10 Coach of the Year, is the first head coach to earn COY twice.
Besides Reiss, Linda Ziemke is the only other head coach in Rhody history to earn Coach of the Year.
Ziemke was named COY after leading the Rams to the only NCAA Tournament appearance in 1995-96.
Reiss is the only coach in program history to lead the Rams to back-to-back 20-win seasons.
TOURÉ NAMED MOST IMPROVED PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Rhode Island junior Mayé Touré was named the Atlantic 10 Most Improved Player of the Year, the conference announced Tuesday.
The Athis-Mons, France native had a breakout season in 2022-23.
Her offense exploded, after being limited to 9.3 minutes per game last year with the Rams, Touré earned her role as starter, contributing 13.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per game this season.
Touré averaged 2.4 points and 3.9 boards in 2021-22.
She finished the regular season with 12 double-doubles, entering the year with just one career double-double to her name.
She improved her shooting as well- coming into the season she was 39.5 percent from the floor. This year, she leads the league shooting 53.8 percent (164-305).
Her efforts to lead Rhode Island to their best season in program history also earned her a spot on the All-Conference First Team.

SEASON FINALE MAKES HISTORY

Rhode Island won in dominating fashion for the regular season finale, defeating Dayton 81-57 for the 13th win at the Ryan Center.
It was the most wins in Kingston ever, passing last year’s then-record of 12 wins at home.
With the win, the Rams also earned a share of the A-10 regular season championship.
It was the first time in program history Rhody accomplished such a feat.
Rhody finished the season 23-5, and 14-2 in conference. Both 23 and 14 are program-bests in a single season.
DEPTH IS THE DIFFERENCE

Four of the eight different Rams that have scored in double figures this season have been reserves.
In the road win over Saint Louis, Rhody’s bench poured in 32 points. Sophomore Emmi Rinat had 23 of those points off the bench.
The win over Dayton was Rhody’s best bench performance. The Rams added a season-high 35 points from the reserves.
In the win at St. Bonaventure, it was freshman Ines Debroises’ turn. She added a season-high 12 points on 4-of-7 from the floor and 3-of-3 at the charity stripe.
Head coach Tammi Reiss has said the depth this season has been the major difference in closing out games.
The Rams are 14-2 when the bench provides 20 or more points.
