Rhode Islanders escape the heat at the beach
NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) – As temperatures remained high Monday, some Rhode Islanders escaped the heat at the beach where temperatures were much cooler.
While windy at the coast, Scarborough State Beach in Narragansett saw plenty of beachgoers who didn’t mind the relief from the heat.
“My job got canceled so here I am and my first time on the beach this season so I’m excited,” said Donna Debiasio of Providence.
Debiasio said it felt strange having to wear a mask to the beach last year and is happy to see things get back to normal.
“I’m a native Rhode Islander and last year I spent the most time on the beach I ever had in my entire life. It was a little strange with the masks, just going into the pavilion mostly, but yeah, it’s wonderful. So nice to see people out enjoying themselves, so I’m happy about that.”
Some people traveled hours for beach time.
“We’ve been coming to Scarborough Beach forever. We just love it here,” said Paulette Choquette of Auburn, Massachusetts, ‘ever since Rhode Island came up with this great thing to be friendly to out-of-state people. They have a great rate for season passes.”
Paulette and her husband, Paul, jumped in the car this morning when they saw the forecast.
“We always look at the forecast for the beach. We don’t care what it is on the Boston forecast, we look for the beach forecast, and, ok, it’s good at the beach lets go!”
